At Pismo Beach this summer we tried something new — a sunset photo workshop with 25 campers.

We came a day early to scout the shoreline, check the tide, and choose the best spots. We also prepared handouts with quick tips on composition, horizons, and shooting with both phones and DSLRs. By the next evening, the group was spread along the beach — some with DSLRs, some with a phone but all equally excited.

As the sun dropped, we practiced framing, finding reflections, and keeping horizons clean. It wasn’t about technical perfection; it was about watching the colors shift, sharing the moment, and capturing what it felt like to be there.
